A Rare Sunny Day

Today was a lovely day. Well, at least until 6pm. It's raining now.

Today was a lovely day. Well, at least until 6pm. It's raining now. Ena is really into her pen and paper at the moment. She loves to make lists (scribbles on paper). As we came down the stairs into the yard she had pen and paper in hand and said to me "Now, what do you want to know about?" This is her segue-way into an educational lesson. I am supposed to ask about trees or flowers or some other such thing and she will tell me all about it. Spiderwebs was her suggestion this time. The lesson went something like this: spiders make webs, spiders won't hurt you, they're just little, the end. The other day I had Wren in the highchair out on the deck while I was making lunch and I asked Ena to sit out there with her to keep her company. Ena climbed up on the bench across from Wren, crossed her legs and asked "Now, what would you like to know about?" She then gave Wren a lesson about trees: they are big, they have roots under the ground, they need food and water. It was quite a picture.

In the photo with her sandals Ena is getting rid of a rock. This is just before we played a game inspired by Dora the Explorer where Ena acted as an bad witch who locked Wren and I in the high tower and then our mommy (also played by Ena) came to save us by whispering the magic word, "oblis." It was also just before she peed all over her pants and sandals while attempting an outside pee by herself.

It was Wren's first time in these chairs. She quite liked them. Wren is much more physical than Ena was at this age and wasn't satisfied just sitting on these chairs (not that Ena would have been either - she just would have wanted me to play some kind of game with her that involved the chairs). Wren figured out how to get off the chair and then crawl back on. Then she learned how to kneel on the chair. Then she figured out how to stand on the chair. These photos were taken just before she did a face-plant off the chairs and (fortunately for her) on to my lap.

All in all it was a fabulous day. We blew bubbles. We played soccer. Ena took Wren down her slide. We went to the park. Ena visited with her friend Anna. And we all enjoyed the warmth of the sun.
